Florida law enforcement officers provided around-the-clock security for Attorney General Pam Bondi for six weeks this year due to a threat that is still under investigation.
Authorities had not previously acknowledged the threat until Friday. That’s because a new report released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement showed the state had spent more than $216,000 on providing security for Bondi this past year.
FDLE officials would not provide any details about the threat but called it “credible.” They provided security for Bondi from late May until early July.
Bondi in a statement called it a “serious threat” that caused her many “sleepless nights.”
Gov. Rick Scott has a security detail that guards him and his family. Other statewide elected officials do not normally get the same type of security.
