On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott announced three appointments and four reappointments to a variety of state regulatory boards.
Santa Fe College District Board of Trustees
Scott announced three reappointments to the Santa Fe College District Board of Trustees, which serves the residents of Alachua-Bradford County.
Robert Hudson, 73, of Gainesville, is a retired health care executive. Previously, he was president and chief executive officer of Santa Fe Healthcare from 2000 to 2006. He served on the Florida Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 2000 to 2006 and the Florida TaxWatch Board of Directors from 2000 to 2007. Hudson’s reappointment is for a term ending May 31, 2019.
Tom Mallini, 66, of Gainesville, has been the president and chief executive officer of Merchants & Southern Bank since 1985. Previously, he served as chair of the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions advisory board, a member of the Oak Hammock Retirement Community Board of Directors, and director of the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce. Mallini’s reappointment is for a term ending May 31, 2019.
Lisa Prevatt, 56 of Hampton, has been an assistant superintendent for the Bradford County School District since 2007. Previously, she was an assistant principal at Bradford High School from 2006 to 2007 and principal of Lawley Community School from 2003 to 2006. Prevatt’s reappointment is for a term ending May 31, 2019.
Each of the appointments is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission
Scott then named Sheriff William “Bill” Prummell and reappointed Major Michael Allen to the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, which oversees the qualification and training of criminal justice officers.
Prummell, 45, of Punta Gorda, is Sheriff of Charlotte County. He fills a vacant seat for a term beginning August 21, 2015, and ending August 1, 2019.
Allen, 47, of Lakeland, is the detention major for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. His reappointment is for a term ending August 1, 2019.
Florida Commission on the Status of Women
Scott next named Miriam “Mimi” Planas to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women, a nonpartisan board of 22 appointed members to study and make recommendations to the Governor, Cabinet and Legislature on issues affecting women.
Planas, 48, of Miami, is an executive assistant with Dolphin Products and the chairwoman of the Miami-Dade County Community Council, District 10. She succeeds Alci Maldonado for a term ending September 30, 2019.
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
Lastly, Scott appointed Robert Spottswood to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Spottswood, 58, of Key West, is a sixth generation Floridian who serves as chief executive officer of Spottswood Companies Inc. He currently is a member of the Third District Court of Appeals Judicial Nominating Commission and the Governor’s Commission on Healthcare and Hospital Funding. Spottswood succeeds Richard Corbett for a term ending January 6, 2018.
“I am proud to appoint Robert today,” Scott said in a statement. “I know Robert cares deeply about our beautiful state and preserving Florida as the fishing capital of the world.”
Spottswood’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
