Winter Garden City Commissioner Robert “Bobby” Olszewski has filed to run for Orange County Commission District 1 to replace incumbent Commissioner Scott Boyd, who has reached his term limit.
District 1 includes the neighborhoods of Windermere, Winter Garden, and Oakland.
Announcing on Tuesday afternoon at the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office, Olszewski joined his wife Allison and mother Rosie, who are Orange County public school teachers at Independence Elementary in Horizon West and Dr. Phillips High School, respectively.
“I am excited to put our residents and community first as I continue my passion for public service by representing our communities in District 1 as an Orange County Commissioner,” Olszewski said.
Previously elected to two terms the Winter Garden commission, Olszewski was first elected in 2012. He won his second term this year without opposition and has lived in Orange County District 1 since 1980.
He joins Betsy VanderLey, a business project development manager, in the race.
“In Orange County growth is inevitable, but how you manage that growth is critical. Look at all of the great things we have accomplished in Winter Garden with smart growth by putting our residents and community first in the decisions that we made,” Olszewski said.
