Rick Scott hypes new Boeing facility, jobs at Kennedy Space Center

At a ribbon cutting for a new Boeing facility at the Kennedy Space Center, Gov. Rick Scott announced the multi-billion dollar aviation company will add 550 jobs on the Space Coast.

“Leaders in the aerospace and aviation industry like Boeing are choosing Florida over other states because of our world-class facilities, advanced infrastructure and commitment to cutting taxes,” Scott said. “Enterprise Florida is laser-focused on the long-term success of companies like Boeing and has been instrumental in helping them expand in Florida.”

State economic development agencies Enterprise Florida and Space Florida played a role in the deal, though details on what incentives Boeing will receive for the new jobs have not been released.

The Department of Economic Opportunity’s incentives portal shows Boeing has another active deal promising $500,000 in state incentives money through the Quick Action Closing Fund if the company adds 50 new jobs and makes a $23 million capital investment.

Not wasting an opportunity to beat his incentives funding drum, Scott added that the state “must fully fund EFI so Florida remains competitive in the global economy.”

The Republican governor has brought up incentives funding in most of his jobs announcements since the middle of the 2015 legislative session. Scott wanted $85 million for incentives in the 2015-16 budget, but only ended up with about $43 million.
