Why isn’t the Miami Herald & News Service of Florida re-reporting this story?

For years, readers of our content have had to endure my incessant complaints about the Tampa Bay Times and Miami Herald “re-reporting” news which originally broke via one of our platforms.

Re-reporting is on a rung lower than news aggregating (which Extensive Enterprises Media and so many other news organizations feely do) because it offers neither attribution or an online link to the original source.

Yet, here I am now wondering why the Herald’s Mary Ellen Klas and/or the News Service of Florida’s Dara Kam are not re-reporting one of our scoops.

As Jim Rosica reported last week Tuesday, gambling giant Las Vegas Sands is abandoning its push for a destination casino resort in Florida. In the immortal words of Vice President Joe Biden, this is a “big f*cking deal.” Other than the on-again, off-again negotiations between the Seminole Tribe and the state of Florida and a couple of other stories (the Secretary of the Lottery resigning), this is as big a story there is in the Sunshine State’s gaming industry.

It was a big enough story for the South Florida Sun Sentinel to immediately editorialize about it. It was a big enough story for the Las Vegas Review-Journal to report about it.

Yet, Klas and Kam — the two members of the Florida Capitol Press Corps who write most often about gambling — appear to be ignoring the story. Mind you, these are two reporters who write so often about gambling, it would not surprise me to see them announce the daily numbers for the Florida Lottery.

What gives?

If a tree falls in the SaintPetersBlog forrest, does that mean the Herald and/or NSF don’t hear it?

Or these reporters and their editors just that unwilling to give EEM the slightest tip of the hat that they’d choose to ignore news rather than report it?

Please, Mary Ellen and Dara, re-report this story (with attribution, of course). I promise you we won’t complain.
