U.S. Rep. David Jolly has hired Trey McCarley and Kris Money to raise money for his U.S. Senate campaign.
McCarley and Money’s hiring was confirmed to FloridaPoltics.com by campaign manager Nick Hansen.
Jolly is one of four Republicans running for the Senate seat up for grabs in 2016 because of Marco Rubio’s decision to pursue the presidency.
The fundraising duo was in the news last month after they parted ways with Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign. Published reports indicate that they are still raising money for Right to Rise, the super PAC raising money in support of Bush’s candidacy.
McCarley and Money are well known in Florida political circles: McCarley for his connections to Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, Money for his work for former House Speaker Will Weatherford.
The GOP primary for the Senate seat recently entered an interesting phase after Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater said he is considering entering the race after first declaring he would not. Former Attorney General Bill McCollum is also weighing his options.
Meanwhile, Jolly, Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis are struggling (somewhat) to build name ID and raise money.
One of the knocks on the policy-oriented, almost cerebral Jolly is that he doesn’t like asking for money. He has not yet released his fundraising report for the third quarter of 2015, but campaign sources are attempting to lower expectations.
“Now that David has hired Trey and Kris,” one source said, “we expect the fundraising to take off.”
