Gov. Rick Scott wants legislators to keep in place a tax break for manufacturing companies.
Two years ago, the Florida Legislature agreed to waive the state’s 6 percent sales tax for equipment purchased by manufacturing businesses. But the $137 million a year tax break is scheduled to end in 2017.
Scott said in a statement released Tuesday that the state would “effectively be raising taxes” if it allows the tax break to be eliminated.
Scott last year asked legislators to make the tax break permanent, but lawmakers did not go along with the request.
Legislative leaders have promised to cut taxes in 2016, but they haven’t yet identified which tax breaks they plan to adopt during the annual session that starts in January.
