Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer released the first television ad on Thursday afternoon for his bid for a fifth term. The spot features an emphasis on public safety, an issue at the focus of the race in recent days.

“It’s Working” kicks off by mentioning the 20 percent drop in crime during the past eight years.

“Because Buddy demanded the use of technology for police, and crime surveillance cameras to crack down on drug dealers and a seize illegal guns. So, Orlando remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

The ad comes just hours after Dyer announced endorsements from the local police and firefighter unions, who said Dyer’s opponent, Paul Paulson, would present a budget “that would put families in danger.”

Their argument is that Paulson’s pledge to roll back the 17.7 percent increase passed by the city council last year couldn’t happen without substantial cuts to public safety.

Dyer also faces opposition from “Sunshine” Linda Grund. Election day is Nov. 3.

You can watch “It’s Working” here, with the password “dyer.”
