Build Something That Lasts has blockbuster October; Shad Khan is in

Lenny Curry Oktoberfest

Not exactly an October surprise, but Build Something That Lasts, a committee established by supporters of Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry “to advance conservative principles and … support political causes and potentially candidates who reflect the same vision for the future of Jacksonville and Northeast Florida,” had a big fundraising month.

It raised $94,500, with the biggest donation coming from the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose CFO, Kelly Flanagan, is poised to be confirmed to join the JEA Board.

The Jaguars also were in the spotlight Thursday in political side of Jacksonville news, with legislation filed for the city and Shad Khan to split the costs on a $90 million slate of EverBank Field upgrades, including a covered practice field and an amphitheater that one of Khan’s companies will manage for 30 years.

Speaking of the JEA Board, new member Tom Petway ponied up $2,500 as part of $30,000 in Petway-related money deposited into the PAC account in October.

The fund dispersed just shy of $30,000 in October, including donations to the campaign funds of Tallahassee power brokers Richard Corcoran and Jose Oliva, $20,000 of that money went to the Making a Better Tomorrow PAC. Look for that name on mailers in Duval County mailboxes down the road, perhaps.

Build Something That Lasts, all told, has raised $154,500. All told so far, it has spent just north of $35,000. Without question, it is the campaign account to watch in Northeast Florida for the foreseeable future.
