Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without the highly awaited holiday greetings from Southern Strategy Group, Tallahassee’s foremost lobbying house.
Every year, the SSG Christmas card offers a fun take on the year’s biggest political stories, something always guaranteed to bring a buzz – not to mention a few snickers – throughout Florida’s Capitol.
And for 2015, there was no shortage of material – from redistricting battles and the behind-the-scenes leadership intrigue in the Florida Senate to a pair of Florida residents (not counting part-timers) as top contenders for the White House in 2016.
But this year’s winner takes a jab at one of those part-time Floridians: Donald Trump.
Consistently leading Republican polls, both nationwide and in Florida, Trump is besting two of the state’s native sons, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, while simultaneously disrupting the status quo of the Republican Party.
SSG’s Christmas card cover is an image of the baby Jesus – an iconic symbol of the season – wrapped in swaddling clothing, laying in a golden straw bed.
On the inside, however, it’s revealed that Jesus is actually laying in a bed of Trump’s hair, right under the words, “Oh Comb, All Ye Faithful.”
The inscription is no less pun-worthy:
“Happy holidays, and we hope you trump all of life’s challenges in 2016!”
Whether the outrageous billionaire real estate tycoon – and his famous coif – will ultimately translate red-hot popularity into actual votes is yet to be seen. Either way, Trump’s campaign is causing quite the stir, and is sure to remain (at least for now) the biggest political story in the Sunshine State.
