Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich just might be the candidate to bring Montel Williams back to the GOP.
In an USA TODAY op-ed Friday, Montel, a former talk show host, military veteran and political commentator, calls the Ohio Governor the right “adult” in the Republican race to occupy the White House.
“If there’s one thing 22 years in the military taught me it’s that we need an adult in the White House,” Williams wrote. “Someone who’ll stand up to our enemies abroad. Someone who is responsible enough to command the world’s most powerful military. Someone who’ll rise above the din of toxicity infecting our national dialogue and unite our bitterly divided public. Someone who can work with both parties while remaining true to his core beliefs.
“That adult is Kasich,” he says.
Williams, who says the Republican Party is “in trouble,” sees Kasich as “the best choice to root out corruption at the Veterans Administration.”
Williams admits he does not agree with Kasich on everything, citing differing views on drug policy, a woman’s right to choose and on education. But he does say the candidate is trustworthy and is someone “who’ll look you in the eye, hear you out, and have an honest conversation.”
