Susie Wiles, Florida campaign co-chair for Donald Trump, answered some questions from Florida Politics about the Trump win in New Hampshire, the path going forward, and Ted Cruz’s campaign manager making a fundraising swing in NE Florida Wednesday.
Trump, at this writing, sits at 34 percent. And that’s just fine with Wiles: “I hoped for a percentage in excess of 30% and it looks like we’ll get there,” she said.
The storyline many are noticing coming out of New Hampshire: the victories of anti-establishment candidates in both parties. When asked if there was a Trump/Sanders parallel, Wiles’ answer was interesting.
“Both sides will likely not embrace the parallel,” Wiles said, “but it exists. The winners tonight are the most ‘not of Washington’ in the field and that is a powerful signal.”
When asked about Ted Cruz’s campaign manager coming to Jacksonville to fundraise, Wiles was surprised, saying “I didn’t know that and I don’t know him.”
With Florida looking like a binary contest between Trump and Cruz, at least according to recent polls, odds are they will have some time to get acquainted.
