Beth Tuura calls out Mike Miller on vote to keep Confederate statue

Democratic state House of Representatives candidate Beth Tuura has called out her Republican opponent, state Rep. Mike Miller of Orlando, for voting to keep a Confederate general’s statue at the U.S. Capitol.

“The test of any public servant is whether or not they are serving the best interests of all of their constituents. Yesterday, Mike Miller again failed that test,” Tuura stated in a news release from her campaign.

On Wednesday the House voted 83-32 to approve Senate Bill 310, which calls for the removal of Civil War Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith‘s statue as one of two statues representing Florida in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall Collection. The Senate approved the bill in January, and Gov. Rick Scott has indicated he will sign it.

Tuura, one of three Orlando Democrats seeking to take on Miller in House District 47, said Miller’s vote was “a direct appeal to the Donald Trump voters of the Republican Party who believe that America’s best days are rooted in our past.

“Rather than seeking to divide us, Floridians deserve a symbol representative of the diverse group of people of different races, backgrounds, ethnicities, and sexual orientations that have built our state,” she stated.

America and We The People should always “be rooted in the past”! By the way! Florida is a lot bigger than Orlando!!
