A third Democrat has filed to run against state Reps. Kevin Rader and Irv Slosberg in the race for Senate District 29.

Mindy Koch, the president of the Democratic Club of Boca Raton and Delray Beach, filed to run in SD 29 on Tuesday, turning the contest into a three-way primary.

So far, Rader is the only candidate to qualify for the ballot and also holds the campaign finance lead with about $39,000 in his campaign account as of May 31.

Slosberg, who filed for the seat last week, brought about $28,000 in cash on hand when he transferred his campaign from the House to the Senate, and he’ll need about $1,800 of that money to pay the qualifying fee to get on the ballot.

Koch will also need to mail a check quickly, as the deadline to qualify is noon Friday.

SD 29 covers a large part of inland Palm Beach County, as well as a piece of the coast that includes Boca Raton and a small piece of northern Broward County. About 44 percent of the district’s electorate are registered Democrats, with Republicans holding a 30 percent share.

The newly drawn seat shares a lot of the same territory with the old SD 25, represented by Democratic Sen. Joe Abruzzo. Redistricting drew his home into the same seat as Sen. Jeff Clemens, and instead of challenging the fellow Democrat, Abruzzo announced he would instead run for Rader’s house seat.
