Boca Raton Democratic Rep. Irv Slosberg cut a $120,000 check to his Senate District 31 campaign last month but ended up spending more than he brought in.

The six-figure loan was one of two contributions made to the HD 91 representative’s campaign through the first three weeks of June, the other a $50 check from Tamarac resident Karen Foster.

The $120,050 haul was countered by $124,219 in spending, including nearly $100,000 in advertising through Marietta, Georgia-based CPM Station and the Washington D.C., group Convergence Targeted Communications. The third-term representative also spent more than $20,000 on consultants, including payments to Strother Strategies, Karen Foster, Victoria Lawrence and Jack Shifrel, among others.

After expenditures, Slosberg’s campaign finance report shows him with $24,241 on hand as of June 24, while fellow Democrats Sen. Jeff Clemens and Emmanuel Morel have yet to file their June reports.

Slosberg entered the SD 31 race June 13 after he had announced that he would run in SD 29, where fellow Democratic Rep. Kevin Rader is the frontrunner in a two-way Democratic primary.

Slosberg, who mounted an expensive failed campaign for Florida Senate against Democrat Ted Deutch 10 years ago, currently resides within SD 29 and has drawn criticism from Clemens for running in a district he doesn’t live in.

“We now have a serious opponent in District 31 race for Senate,” the senator said in a fundraising email. “Only he doesn’t seem to know where District 31 is.”

Currently, Clemens has the cash-on-hand advantage in the SD 31 race with more than $93,000 in his campaign account and another $58,000 in his political committee, “Each Vote Counts.”

Morel is in a distant third place with just $100 on hand, and write-in candidate Jason Swaby shows no contributions since filing for the seat June 24, the last day to qualify for the ballot.
