With one month to go before the primary, a new poll shows Kathleen Passidomo has a commanding lead in Senate District 28.
The survey — conducted for “Taxpayers in Action,” a Tampa-based political committee — found Passidomo leads Matt Hudson 56 percent to 21 percent. The survey of likely Republican primary voters found 23 percent of respondents were still undecided.
It is widely believed the race will be decided based on absentee and early voting. Passidomo received support from 61 percent of respondents who said they will vote absentee and 57 percent among those who said they would vote early.
According to the polling memo, Passidomo received support from across the district, and has about 54 percent of the vote “among very conservative voters, strong pro-life voters, strong Second Amendment supporters, and strong Tea Party supporters.” The memo said her support was “very even across the geography of the district.” She has 57 percent support in Collier County, and 60 percent among Republicans in Lee County.
Senate District 28 includes all of Collier and Hendry counties, and parts of Lee County.
According to the survey, 71 percent of respondents in Lee and 68 percent in Collier said they had a favorable view of Passidomo. She was well-liked among seniors, with 70 percent saying they had a favorable view of her.
The survey of 300 likely Republican primary voters in the district was conducted from July 10 through July 12. It has a margin of error of 5.9 percent.
