Despite a tough week of news coverage for Hillary Clinton, the former New York U.S. senator and Secretary of State remains the lone Democrat to declare for the presidential nomination next year, and her forces are now seriously beginning to get to work.
On May 7, at an undisclosed location in Miami, all current and prospective “Hillstarters” will be invited to a strategy session with national Campaign Chairman John Podesta and National Political Director Amanda Renteria.
The day after Clinton announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president two weeks ago, some of her top advisers hosted a conference call to longtime financial supporters being asking them to join a fundraising team called “Hillstarters.” Those are supporters who must raise $27,000 in campaign donations within 30 days. The money will go toward Clinton’s Democratic primary race, as opposed to the general election.
The invitation was sent by Greg Goddard, Clinton’s Florida finance director, and says that “through this briefing and dialogue, you’ll have an early opportunity to connect with other key supporters in your area, and you’ll learn more about Hillary’s plan to earn every vote and how you can help.”
There will be a “Hillary for America” fundraiser in Tampa on Tuesday night at the home of Pat Frank, Clerk of the Circuit Courts in Hillsborough County. Clinton won’t be in attendance, and hasn’t announced when she will be making her first trip to Florida since becoming a candidate for president 15 days ago.
