On Wednesday, a Jacksonville mainstay was elected to lead one of the state’s most vital economic development engines.

Cathy Chambers, the senior vice president of strategy and business development for JAXUSA Partnership, was elected Florida Economic Development Council Chair for the fiscal year 2016-17.

Chambers has been a member of the 22 person board for seven years now, and had previously served as a regional director and vice chair of finance.

In her new role, Chambers will serve also as an ex officio member of the Enterprise Florida board.

“The opportunity to lead FEDC comes at a critical time as we advocate on behalf of the industry to build support for economic development, increase Florida’s competitiveness and ensure that our professionals have the necessary tools and resources to attract jobs and capital investment to the state,” Chambers notes.

Chambers comes into this role with copious experience in business recruitment.

Her efforts have been responsible for 10,000 jobs coming to Northeast Florida, shepherding successful job creation projects from Deutsche Bank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Fidelity National Financial, Adecco and web.com.
