Democrat Nick Duran is widening his fundraising lead over Republican opponent Rosa Maria “Rosy” Palomino in the House District 112 race.

In a campaign statement Friday, Doran said he brought in another $30,002.00 during the second reporting period of the general election.

“Floridians are ready for a change in Tallahassee, which is why we’re proud to have built this campaign with the financial support of people across the 112th District,” said Duran, who serves as the director of the Florida Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. “Our campaign has garnered such a wide range of support because people know I am committed to fighting for our children’s education, our local environment, and the safety and health of our families.”

Duran also discussed his diverse range of endorsements, including those from labor groups AFSCME, the South Florida AFL-CIO, and the Service Employees International Union, business groups like the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Associated Industries of Florida, women’s health care provider Florida Planned Parenthood PAC, and LGBT civil rights organization SAVE Dade.

“It’s time we have people like Nick in Tallahassee who are committed to moving the state forward on environmental programs such as sea level rise mitigation” said Eileen Higgins, member of the leadership committee of the Miami Downtown Democrats. “Nick’s vast experience working with children also makes him the perfect candidate to advocate for education and children’s health in the Legislature.”

A husband and father of two, Duran has become well-established in the nonprofit community. Following a family medical emergency in 2013 – which he said would have devastated his family if not for access to health insurance – Duran became the State Director for Enroll America in Florida, managing a team of over 40 staff members to ensure that every Floridian had the protections that his family enjoyed.

Duran currently serves as the Executive Director of the Florida Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, a group dedicated to strengthening community access to affordable, quality health care. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, and a law degree from New York Law School.
