Donald Trump focused much of his Orlando speech Wednesday on decrying Hillary Clinton as someone with so many legal problems that if she were elected she would create a constitutional crisis.
Republican presidential nominee Trump, speaking before a moderately sized outdoor crowd at the Orlando Amphitheater in the Central Florida Fairgrounds, spent much of his 26-minute speech characterizing the Democratic presidential nominee as someone who likely will get indicted for wrongdoing because of the FBI probe into emails from her private server.
He offered himself as a better vision for America and briefly outlined some of his more popular policy positions, including trashing current trade agreements and putting in place a system to prosecute trade cheaters; building the wall along the Mexico border and having Mexico pay for it; reducing taxes and business regulation; and nominating Supreme Court justices who’ll be pro-Second Amendment and anti-abortion.
“Hillary is the candidate of yesterday,” he said. “We are the movement of the future.”
But Trump also appeared to be spending his final campaign week prosecuting the idea that he may be the safe choice, claiming that Clinton — “Crooked Hillary” in his words — is only seeing the beginning of what he predicted will become long and deep legal problems.
“Hillary Clinton is the most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency. If she were to be elected it would create an unprecedented constitutional crisis,” Trump said.
He also contended she is becoming “unhinged,” the word she used for him in the days after the 2005 Entertainment Tonight outtake audio recording was released in October, in which Trump bragged about being able to sexually abuse women.
“Hillary wants to blame everyone else for her mounting legal troubles,” Trump said. “I don’t know if you’ve seen her last few speeches in the last few days; she has become totally unhinged. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. What she’s saying and what she’s doing, it’s actually unbelievable.
“But she has no one to blame but herself,” he continued. “Hillary is the one who set up a private legal server to shield her criminal activity. Hillary is the one who engaged in a corrupt pay-to-play scheme at the State Department. Hillary is the one who lied so many times to Congress and the FBI. Hillary is the one who made 13 phones disappear, some with a hammer, and who destroyed 30,000 emails, after, after, after, receiving a congressional subpoena. Think about it. Unbelievable.”
Trump predicted the new cache of email the FBI announced last Friday it had taken from disgraced Democratic former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner‘s computers will include classified and confidential emails from Clinton, though there have been no reports from the FBI or anyone else to suggest what, if anything, is among them. He also declared the first FBI investigation proved Clinton to be corrupt and worthy of prosecution, even though the FBI insisted that was not true.
“Before you go into Phase II, let’s call last Friday Phase II, Phase I, she was so guilty,” he said. “It’s unbelievable. She shouldn’t be allowed to run for the presidency.”
