Florida officials: Aggressive efforts to stop Zika continue

Zika virus

Florida officials say they’re continuing aggressive efforts to stop the spread of the Zika virus.

Gov. Rick Scott met Monday with Miami-Dade County officials to discuss Zika preparedness ahead of Florida’s rainy season, when mosquitoes are most prevalent.

Officials said fewer travel-related cases are being reported in Florida so far this year, compared with last spring.

Officials also said state labs and Miami-Dade mosquito control operations added staff since last year’s Zika outbreak. Counseling also is available for families affected by the virus that can cause severe brain-related birth defects.

Florida has reported two locally acquired Zika infections in 2017. Health officials said both patients likely contracted the virus last year in Miami-Dade County.

Zika mainly spreads by mosquito bites but can also spread through sex.

So when is Governor Scott, after receiving multiple requests from cities, counties, and advocacy groups going to declare a state of emergency for this ongoing man made physician controlled massive LEGAL opioid epidemic sweeping our state? FL is loosing upwards of 10-15 residents per day. And that does not count the Medicare population continually being injured and overdosing at the hands of FL licensed providers. How many deaths due to Zika? What is the FL Surgeon General doing to “…promote and protect public health safety…” FL licensed prescribers, MD/DO/ARNP/PA continue to abuse their privileges in our state and again, nothing is getting done. One likes to blame the “sober home operators” for the sober home crisis – yet sober home operators do NOT bill – its a FL licensed provider at the root of this human travesty. Same model as the pill mills where the minimum requirement is the PRIVILEGE of a FL medical license. Shameful that FL continues to allow public health safety to be at elevated risk.
