Telecommunications giant Motorola Solutions announced Monday that it has hammered out details with aerospace company Airbus to acquire an emergency call handling company.
Motorola will take over Plant Holdings, Inc., which owns Airbus DS Communications, and will add its VESTA software suite, including text-to-911, mapping, data management and analytics capabilities to the Motorola software portfolio.
The details of the company’s purchase were not publicly disclosed, though the acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of 2017, pending regulatory approval and closing conditions.
“Our acquisition of Airbus DS Communications will add complementary products and services to our software portfolio, helping us meet the needs of a broader customer base and putting us at the forefront of Next-Generation 911 technology,” said Bruce Brda, executive vice president of products and solutions at Motorola.
“We’re pleased to add these new capabilities to our Software Enterprise, created earlier this year to develop and deliver integrated software solutions that provide critical intelligence and improve operational efficiency for public safety agencies,” he said.
Motorola said the acquisition will allow the company to provide public safety agencies with a full suite of products to transition them from legacy emergency call handling systems to a new standards-based “Next-Generation 911 system.”
