A Florida judge is letting a lawyer argue that Gov. Rick Scott intentionally broke the state’s public records law with the use of a private email account.
Chief Judge Charles Francis on Monday agreed to let Tallahassee lawyer Steve Andrews amend his existing public records lawsuit against the governor. Andrews can now use Scott’s release of nearly 200 pages of emails last month to try to prove the governor violated the law.
Those documents show Scott exchanged emails dealing with vetoes, the state budget and his speeches from a private account.
It is not illegal to have a private email account but Scott had previously said he did not use a Google email account for state business.
A spokeswoman for Scott predicted the court would ultimately throw out his lawsuit.
