State Rep. Amy Mercado has thrown her support behind Democratic businessman Lee Mangold in the House District 28 race, Mangold’s campaign announced Monday.
Mercado, who represents District 48 in Orange County, is the second sitting Democratic state representative to back Mangold in the Seminole County district contest, following John Cortes, who weighed in a couple weeks ago.
“It’s my pleasure to endorse Lee Mangold for State Representative for District 28,” Mercado said in a news release issued by Mangold’s campaign. “He is an advocate for strong public education, affordable healthcare, strong environmental controls, and legislation that puts the people first in this state. Lee is a trusted leader who will represent his district and the State of Florida with honor and integrity in Tallahassee.”
Mangold, of Casselberry, who owns a cyber security company, faces Republican businessman David Smith of Winter Springs in a contest to succeed Republican state Rep. Jason Brodeur.
“Representative Mercado is truly an asset to her district and the State of Florida,” Mangold replied. “I’m honored that she has taken her time to meet with us and share her insights and advice. I look forward to working alongside her in Tallahassee.”
