While the 2014 midterm elections have sent scores of Democratic Capitol Hill staffers scrambling after new employment, this fall is a season of change for some Republicans too: domestic policy specialists Sara Decker and Scott Parkinson are set to take on higher-ranking roles within U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s staff.
Sara Decker is currently Rubio’s head legislative staffer on his work as ranking member on the Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard as well as Professional Staff Member on Commerce, Science & Transportation. She will now serve as Legislative Director. Decker has been with Florida’s junior senator since 2011, when she came over from retired Arizona Congressman John Shadegg’s office.
Supporting Decker in the role of Deputy Legislative Director will be Scott Parkinson. Parkinson ascends to his new role by way of the position of Legislative Assistant in Rubio’s office.
Last month Sen. Rubio lost Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Sally Canfield, who left for a job with the pharmaceutical firm AbbVie.
Sen. Rubio has been very much in the news of late and figures to play a prominent role in the 114th Congress, when he will take over as Chairman of the aforementioned Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard subcommittee as well as the Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs. And oh yeah: he might be running for President.
