Elite international soccer makes it way to Al Lang Stadium Jan. 20 and a couple of the world’s well-known clubs from Colombia and Poland will face off.
The 2016 Copa Libertadores champion, Club Atlético Nacional of Medellin, Colombia, will match up against Poland’s legendary Legia Warsaw at the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ home venue.
The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Tickets are on sale now at www.floridacup.com.
The showdown between the two popular international clubs is a part of the Florida Cup 2018, held annually in Florida. The Florida Cup is the largest international soccer collaboration held in the state every year and yielded viewership of over 50 million people last season from 140 different countries.
Matchups in this year’s Florida Cup will be throughout the state, including the University of Central Florida’s Spectrum Stadium in Orlando. Other matches will be at Central Broward Stadium and Orlando City Stadium, respectively.
Club Atlético Nacional is one of Colombia’s most popular soccer clubs and the successful organization has won 16 league titles, three Copa Colombias, two Superliga Colombianas and 21 domestic titles.
Los Nacionalistas were also the first Colombian club to win the Copa Libertadores in 1989 and, after winning the title again in 2016, is the only Colombian team to win that prestigious tournament more than once.
On the other side of the spectrum, Legia Warsaw is one of the most successful Polish soccer teams in Poland. Legia has won 12 Ekstraklasa Champions titles, a record 18 Polish Cup trophies and four Polish SuperCup matches.
Legia was founded in 1916 and holds first place in the Polish First Division all-time table.
