Gov. Rick Scott’s U.S. Senate campaign is holding a fundraiser Wednesday in Washington, D.C.; U.S. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is listed as a “special guest.”
McCarthy, a California Republican, is currently drumming up support to replace Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as House Speaker after he retires at the end of his term.
The fundraiser, first reported by Alex Leary of the Tampa Bay Times, will be held at the Washington home of former U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, who represented Florida’s 1st Congressional District from 2011 until his retirement in 2017. He now works as a lobbyist for McDermott Will & Emery.
The event is slated to run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and in addition to McCarthy and Miller, lobbyists Joe Augustus, Brenda Becker, Rob Collins, Marty Obst and Todd Walker are listed on the invite.
Suggested donations for individuals looking are listed as $1,000 to attend and $2,700 to make the host committee. Those suggested donation tiers are bumped to $2,500 and $5,000 for political committees.
Scott, who is termed out as governor, officially announced last week that he would challenge longtime Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2018.
