"Always remember that Floridians will stand strong in times of tragedy."

Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags at half-staff on Thursday “in honor and remembrance of the victims of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.”

He signed a proclamation (below) on Wednesday.

He also asked all Floridians to observe a moment of silence at 3 p.m. That’s in addition to a moment of silence being held 9 a.m. in the Capitol Courtyard in Tallahassee.

“The lives of survivors, families, loved ones and the Parkland community continue to be in our thoughts and prayers as they continue to recover and heal,” the Governor said. “… Always remember that Floridians will stand strong in times of tragedy.”

A mass shooting at the Broward County school last Feb. 14 claimed the lives of 17 students and staff members.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission was created as part of a sweeping school-safety law (SB 7026) passed last Legislative Session.

DeSantis directed all state flags to be flown at half-staff at “all local and state buildings, installations and grounds” from sunrise till sunset on Thursday.
