After touring Florida to discuss hurricane preparedness, Sen. Rick Scott is hosting a conference Monday in Orlando.
In early June, Scott announced he’d be hosting the conference which brings together federal, state, local government with private-sector business leaders to talk hurricane readiness and recovery.
Scott said:
“I’m proud to host our first Hurricane Preparedness Conference, which will bring together partners from state, local, and federal government, as well as the private sector, to discuss ways we can work together to make sure our communities have everything they need to be safe before, during, and after a storm.
“As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, which has jurisdiction over FEMA and other emergency response agencies, I’m proud to bring federal partners to Florida to build relationships ahead of any future natural disasters.”
Hurricane Season in Florida officially began June 1. Scott’s office recommends Floridians prepare for hurricanes by having an evacuation, stockpiling food, water and other essentials, including personal and pet care items.

Scott sure is world class at self aggrandizement. Is Florida’s Chief Thief going to teach us how to do absolutely nothing to address climate change, to not even say the word, all as the last few years tick away where it is even possible to address this existential threat to Florida? Climate change has made hurricanes more frequent and more powerful. All Rick Scott does is make the problem worse. pRick Scott doesn’t give a shit about hurricanes or Floridians for that matter. This is just another opportunity for Scott to get on television and fool Florida’s many weak minded citizens into thinking that he is actually a public servant. Last year Hurricane Michael destroyed my community, Panama City. Since then we have seen the real Rick Scott. He shows up when there is a television camera rolling. Otherwise, crickets. It took us over 230 days to get any federal recovery funding. That is by far the longest delay in federal assistance in history. Rick Scott could have help, much of that time his political party completely controlled the federal government, but really he just doesn’t give a shit.
