Political dominoes continue to tumble after John Thrasher’s departure from state Senate District 6, with two Republican House candidates hosting Tallahassee fundraisers this week in their respective special election bids.
Attorney Paul Renner, who is running for House District 24, is holding a college basketball reception Tuesday, Jan. 6 as the Florida State Seminoles take on the Virginia Tech Hokies at the Leon County Civic Center (Donald L Tucker Center), 505 West Pensacola Street in Tallahassee. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
Republican State Rep. Travis Hutson vacated the HD 24 seat in November to run in the special election for Thrasher’s District 6. Renner faces Republicans Sheamus McNeeley, Ron Sanchez and Danielle Anderson in the GOP primary Jan. 27. The winner will face Democrat Adam Morley on April 7.
HD 24 includes Flagler and parts of St. Johns and Volusia Counties.
On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Republican candidate Mike Davis is holding a Tallahassee fundraising reception in support of his bid for House District 17, vacated by state Rep. Doc Renuart, who left to also vie for Thrasher’s seat.
Davis’ event will begin 5 p.m. at the Governors Club Library Room.
HD 17 covers St. Augustine up to the southern border of Duval County.
Davis faces Republicans John R. “Jack” Capra and Cyndi Stevenson in the GOP special primary, also held on Jan. 27. The winner will face write-in candidate Mary Anne Boczek and No Party Affiliation candidate Judy Stevens on April 7.

Our District 17 for the Florida House of Representatives does not include any of Duval County. It does not go through southern Duval. Please correct.
