Bayfront Health St. Petersburg will be under new leadership beginning Oct. 1 after Orlando Health entered a deal to acquire the city lease to operate the downtown hospital.

Orlando Health named John Moore president of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and Vice President of Orlando Health’s West Division.

Moore previously served as president of Orlando Health South Lake Hospital in southern Lake County and adjoining areas in Orange and Polk counties. In that role, Moore oversaw a facility expansion that led to more than 10,000 new patients being served annually.

Moore also led the development of the Orlando Health National Training Center. The facility provides local athletes the chance to train with Olympic medal winners. He also helped establish the Healthcare Collegiate Academy, which prepares students for health care careers as early as ninth grade. Students in the program graduate with an Associate Degree and gain automatic entrance into the University of Central Florida.

Under his leadership, the Central Florida hospital received A-grades from the Leapfrog Group for the last four grading periods.

Orlando Health also tapped LaTasha Barnes as Bayfront Health St. Petersburg’s new chief financial officer and Omar Gonzalez as its corporate director for IT and clinical engineering.

Barnes currently serves as the CFO for Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies. She’s been with Orlando Health since 2018 and has more than 20 years of experience with health care finance.

Gonzalez is currently the senior manager of IT services operations for Orlando Health where he’s served since 2019. Gonzalez will oversee Bayfront Health St. Petersburg’s IT transition.

“Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is in very good hands with John, LaTasha and Omar and we’re thrilled to have them there,” said David Strong, president and CEO of Orlando Health. “Their experience and leadership will be invaluable as the hospital enters a new era focused on delivering the highest quality care for the community of St. Petersburg.”

Their roles will be official when Orlando Health closes its deal with Community Health Systems, which currently operates Bayfront Health, on Sept. 30.
