State Rep. Travis Hutson took in another $80,625 in campaign cash from December 1-31 as the Elkton Republican campaigns in the special election for Senate District 6.
The special election is to replace former Sen. John Thrasher, the St. Augustine Republican who resigned the Legislature in November to become Florida State University president.
Of the $80,625, Hutson contributed $50,000 and reported a “carryover deduction” of $20,000, according to reports filed Monday. Hutson raised $236,825 overall and loaned $150,000 to the campaign account as of Dec. 31. After spending $224,906 in the December reporting period, his overall campaign price tag now stands at $288,460.
Hutson faces two other Republicans in the primary set for Jan. 27, led by fellow state Rep. Ronald “Doc” Renuart. Updated finance totals for Renuart, a Ponte Vedra Beach Republican, are still pending by Monday evening.
Dennis McDonald, the third Republican candidate, has not reported raising any funds as of Dec. 31, loaning his campaign $6,300.
Whoever wins the primary will face Daytona Beach Democrat David Cox in the special general election on April 7. As of Dec. 31, Cox had raised only $150.
District 6 covers St. Johns, Flagler and Putnam counties and parts of Volusia County.
