Toby Philpot has confirmed to FloridaPolitics.com that he will be leaving his job as Florida director of government relations at Health Management Associates to assume the role of chief of staff for the Florida Lottery.
Philpot has previously served as political director for Senate President Mike Haridopolos before moving over to HMA. His new appointment, however, is far from his first time around the block working within the state agencies: He worked as special assistant to the secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration right after graduating from University of Florida, and later as deputy legislative affairs director for the Florida Department of Transportation.
Philpot comes to the job at a time when the Florida Powerball Powerplay cash award is up to $194 million.
