Patrick Murphy raised more than half a million dollars in campaign cash in the final quarter of 2014, according to recently-released campaign finance reports. The Palm Beach congressman — recently the subject of rumors about statewide candidacies — has hit the $500,000 mark in eight consecutive quarters, unusual for a relatively junior House Democrat.
Murphy’s background in finance has certainly helped him raise these funds, but has also raised hackles back home among progressives concerned about his votes on Wall Street and consumer issues.
Murphy recently joined freshman Gwen Graham as the only Florida Democrats to cross the aisle in support of a bill to remove certain regulations enacted by the Dodd-Frank Act.
“I’m extremely grateful for the broad support I have received serving the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast in Washington,” said Murphy in a statement released by his campaign on Thursday.
“I look forward to continue seeking common-sense, bipartisan solutions in Congress and focusing on the issues that matter most to our community, our state, and our nation.”
