Hillsborough County Commission Chair Sandy Murman says she definitely will file for re-election for her District 1 seat for 2016 later this year, but hasn’t completely discarded the idea of running for a countywide seat.
“I love my district and I’m happy to serve,” the Davis Islands Republican said when asked about her plans for next year. District 1 is a wide-ranging district: It encompasses Apollo Beach, Davis Island, Gandy Boulevard., Gibsonton, Harbor Island, Hyde Park, MacDill, Palma Ceia, Ruskin, South Tampa, Sun City, Sunset Park and Town ‘N Country.
When asked about suggestions that she was contemplating a run for the countywide District 6 seat being vacated next year by term-limited Democrat Kevin Beckner, Murman said, “That’s always a possibility,” but said she wasn’t actively thinking of such a run at the moment. “It’s still early.”
Murman has been on the Board of County Commissioners since 2010. She was re-elected in 2012. Prior to that, she completed eight years as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1996-2004.
In addition to Beckner’s and Murman’s seats, the District 3 post held by Democrat Les Miller will also go back before the voters in 2016.
