Trevor Project condemns Florida ban on transgender medical care

A group dedicated to stopping suicide among LGBTQ+ youth is condemning a Florida board’s decision to ban transgender medical care.

In the wake of the decision by the osteopathic medicine board and the Florida Board of Medicine to disallow treatment modalities that fall under the umbrella of gender-affirming treatment, the Trevor Project condemns the ban of what it calls “the provision of best-practice medical care to transgender and nonbinary youth, even for research purposes.”

“Transgender medical care is well-established, best-practice treatment that can allow transgender young people to live happy, healthy lives. This politically motivated blanket ban would make Florida’s standards of care contradict the guidance of the World Health Organization, World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and every major medical and mental health association in the U.S.,” said Jonah DeChants, Research Scientist at The Trevor Project.

“The Trevor Project conducted the first large-scale study of transgender youth who received gender-affirming hormone therapy, and found that receiving this care was associated with nearly 40% lower odds of recent depression and of a past-year suicide attempt among minors. The Florida Board of Medicine should be investing in additional research and breaking down existing barriers to affirming medical and mental health care across the state, not eliminating one of the best choices trans youth and their families can make to reduce gender dysphoria and promote well-being.”

The stakes are high for a population that is under siege, the Trevor Project notes.

The Trevor Project’s 2022 U.S. National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health by State “found that 54% of transgender and nonbinary youth in Florida seriously considered suicide in the past year, and 20% made an attempt.”

Nationally, 71% of transgender and nonbinary youth have self-reported discrimination based on their gender identity, which has led to an increase in suicide attempts among those experiencing such persecution.

Perhaps these statistics should be shared with our Governor, who prides himself on using science and fact to guide his legislation

Can a 12 yr old smoke cigarettes? Drink alcohol? Get a tattoo? No. Then CHILDREN cannot make a life altering decision based on the latest fab. Leave the kids alone.

It’s doctors, parents, and kids deciding on medical care together based on best practices, just like treating any medical condition. Based on your logic, there should be no medical care for kids. Should a kid decide if they want their broken leg treated? Yes.

You don’t treat a broken leg by cutting it off. You don’t treat gender dysphoria by attacking the genitalia. It is a disease of the brain.

You have no idea what you are writing about. It is not a disease of the brain. It’s simply not. You analogy falls apart because you have not studied the science. The science, you have not read, is peer reviewed, well researched, and has established best practices (of which you are not familiar). Separately, you are hung up those categorized male at birth (who sometimes, not always, have a penis). It’s not about that either. Ignorant comments like yours lead to unnecessary deaths. The current treatments (you don’t understand) work.

Is this the same “science” we were bombarded with during Covid? The same “peer reviewed” bullshit? These “experts” only smell money. I am a chemical engineer by education and profession. I know damn well how “science is never settled”. Right now there is a social pandemic of “trans” – girls in particular. This is not a true indication of any “real” transgenderism” in humanity. Where were all of these trans even 20 or 30 years ago? A thousand years ago? I pray to God you are not a parent. Parents need to properly socialize their children, which includes accepting their biological sex. There are many of us gays and lesbians that do not follow the alphabet nazis code. We consider “trans” to be inherently anti-gay. A boy may be inherently effeminate, and if left alone might grow up to be a gay male. A girl may be a tomboy, and if left alone may grow up to be a lesbian. What your ideology wants is tell this young people they were born into the wrong sex. This is medically CRIMINAL. And you know it and you know you are losing this battle.

Part of the problem is that these “gender clinics” see dollar signs due to the Biden administration requiring health insurance to cover the procedures.

Transgender humans have been around for thousands of years and in every culture.

As a TINY, miniscule percentage of the population. What we have today is a SOCIAL phenomena fueled by social media “influencers”. It is PREPOSTEROUS to strap binders on young girls and give children puberty blocking drugs. Any suggestion of SURGERY on these minors should involve jail terms.

The low estimate is that 2% of the population is transgender (and this was before social media), which is about the same percentage as redheads. Do you hate redheads too? Why are you so hateful? It’s not your issue— the decision should be between kids, parents, and doctors, not someone hateful like you.

Hate the sin, love the sinner. I acknowledge drug addicts exist, and some propose that they should be given free needles and drugs to avoid them committing criminal acts from their addiction. I do NOT advocate that approach. I think the MAJORITY agrees with me. And every doctor lives by – FIRST DO NO HARM! Cutting off a young girls tits and a little boys dick is WRONG!

Nobody is cutting off kids anything. So again, you are going off half-cocked. And maybe it is an unhealthy predilection you have for genitals? Cutting off kid’s genitals is NOT happening. That is not happening. There are no examples of it. It’s not happening. You are ignorant. Regardless unless you are willing to make your medical history public, you hypocritical to stick your nose into mine, my kids, my neighbors, or anyone’s private medical treatment. It is NONE of your business. Let’s also be clear this is not about tax dollars. There are no tax dollars in Florida on transgender treatment, adults or kids (even though there should be).

You do not OWN your children – they are God’s. You provide for them until they are adults, which in our society is 18. Are you in favor of adults allowing their children to inject heroine? Are you aware of the dangers of hormone blockers? You are angry because you are being exposed as a child abuser. You’d better hope your child can’t sue you down the road for malpractice and abuse.

LOL, I would never look to you or God for advice about medical treatment. Licensed healthcare is not heroin. You are so infatuated with the genitalia of trans-kids you need therapy, if not prison.
