Florida-based political media members began the week with some high-profile shuffling, starting with reporter Gray Rohrer announcing he is writing for the Orlando Sentinel as its new Tallahassee correspondent.
Rohrer, a former political reporter for LobbyTools’ former publication The Florida Current, Sunshine State News, and the Cape Coral Daily Breeze, most recently covered the contentious Florida redistricting battle for The Associated Press, including the special session called last August to redraw political maps. Last summer, a Leon County judge ruled 2012 congressional redistricting by the Republican-controlled Legislature violated the Florida Constitution’s Fair Districts anti-gerrymandering amendment.
Monday also marked the debut of POLITICO Florida Playbook, the new email digest from political reporter Marc Caputo, newly hired away from the Miami Herald.
The inaugural blast of Florida Playbook – unpublished publically as of yet, but only as a test run to a select email list — is the first of several projects planned by POLITICO as it expands its scope to include state politics.
The first missive by Caputo, based in Miami, focused on – not unpredictably – “Professor” Marco Rubio and the rumblings of his 2016 White House ambitions.
