A panel discussion on abortion in Palm Beach County this week has been put on hold.

Vice President Kamala Harris (at least temporarily) is scrapping a planned panel discussion about abortion this week in Florida.

Harris was supposed to travel to Palm Beach County Tuesday. But President Joe Biden said in the wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, all travel by his presidential campaign and associates is now on hold.

Biden made that announcement Sunday afternoon in a brief address from the White House.

Harris was set to moderate a panel Tuesday in support of abortion rights, as Floridians are set to vote on a referendum Nov. 5. That ballot initiative called Amendment 4 proposes a Florida constitutional amendment to ease government control over abortion procedures.

POLITICO reports that no new date has been scheduled for the Palm Beach County event.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law abortion measures restricting the procedure to pregnancies under six weeks. There is an exception for 15 weeks for women who become pregnant due to rape or incest or if the pregnancy threatens the mother’s life.

Those restrictions would be eliminated if 60% of voters approve the referendum. Democrats, such as Harris, have aimed to use the abortion issue to draw more voters in Florida to their side and elect the Biden-Harris ticket.
