A challenger to Rep. Kim Daniels in the HD 14 Democratic Primary is touting a pair of recent endorsements down the homestretch as evidence that she is “doing the work” to unseat the socially conservative incumbent.
Florida Planned Parenthood PAC is endorsing Therese Wakefield-Gamble.
Wakefield-Gamble touted the group’s support on X, boosting Amendment 4, which would “limit governmental interference” with abortion.
And earlier this week, the Florida Democratic Party’s “American Muslim Caucus” also back Wakefield-Gamble.
“This endorsement speaks volumes for diversity, equity, and inclusion on how we can grow by listening and learning about each other’s lived experiences. Putting Community First and People over Profit$ is needed for true change,” the candidate said.
These and other forthcoming stretch run endorsements may or may not make a difference in a three-way Primary race where money has been hard to come by for the candidates.
Daniels had a little more than $15,000 on hand as of July 19, the last date for which her fundraising records were available at this writing.
Wakefield-Gamble says that as of this writing she has “$4,000 to $6,000” cash on hand, which is up from the less than $4,000 in liquid funds on her most recent filing.
A third candidate, Lloyd Caulker, has yet to file a fundraising report.
The winner of this three-way Primary is expected to face write-in Briana Hughes in November, though it’s possible Hughes is just closing the Primary, as happened in 2022 when Daniels got 44% of the vote in a four-way Democratic race in August.
No Republican is running in the heavily Democratic district.
