Florida’s aerospace sector will be featured in Tallahassee next month, as lawmakers and industry reps take part in Florida Space Day 2015.
Industry representatives will visit the Capitol on March 25 for the annual event to tell legislators about the many opportunities aerospace offers both statewide and for the national space program.
“The business of space impacts all of Florida,” said former NASA astronaut Andy Allen, chair of Florida Space Day 2015. “Home to more than 500 aerospace companies employing over 30,000 professionals, Florida has the third-largest space industry in the nation.”
As part of Space Day, industry leaders and other aerospace experts meet with Gov. Rick Scott, and legislators, to promote the state’s $9 billion space industry. On the agenda are strategies for economic development policies to attract private sector investment and jobs that ensure Florida remains competitive.
Florida is in a position to become a leader in the next great developmental stage in aerospace, opening new frontiers for exploration and discovery. Home to two of eight commercially licensed spaceports in the country, the Sunshine State is one of only three states already making commercial orbital launches.
Florida Space Day participants include the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Associated Industries of Florida (AIF), The Boeing Co., Brazil-Florida Chamber of Commerce, Craig Technologies, Dynamac Corp., Florida Institute of Technology, Lockheed Martin, Millennium Engineering & Integration, Space Coast Launch Services, Space Florida, SpaceX, United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Vencore.
