Gambling industry targets presidential battleground states

The nation’s casino industry has announced plans to target presidential battleground states in the upcoming election in a first-time campaign for political support.

The American Gaming Association says the effort will tout its ability to create job as it urges White House contenders to support gambling interests.

The step into the mainstream, called “Gaming Votes,” represents a new chapter for an industry that has avoided political involvement beyond individual campaign donations and lobbying efforts.

The initiative will focus on key states, including Nevada, Iowa, Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The group plans to encourage the industry’s workers in those states to go to the polls and urge candidates to support issues that would benefit the industry.
