Twelve days into February, Congresswoman Gwen Graham announced today her office is holding a “My Dream for America” essay contest to celebrate Black History Month. All middle schoolers in Congressional District 2 — which extends across 14 counties in the eastern part of the Panhandle, from Taylor to Holmes — are eligible.

“Our nation has come a long way since Dr. King delivered his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech in 1963, but we still have more work to achieve,” Graham said in a statement Thursday. “Each generation has a new dream for America. I’m looking forward to hearing how today’s students envision our country to progress toward equality.”

Entries can be delivered to mailed to either of Graham’s congressional district offices, in Tallahassee and Panama City.

African-American voters were a key component of Graham’s winning coalition in November 2014, when Graham vanquished Republican incumbent Steve Southerland to become to CD-2’s third Representative in four election cycles.
