Floridians say they’ll spend more on Easter goods and merchandise this year

Peter Cottontail will be hopping down the bunny trail in 2025 with a lot more merchandise than just a year ago, at least according to the Florida Retail Federation (FRF).

Floridians will be spending more on goods, candy and decorations for Easter this year, celebrated on Sunday, April 20.

A recent National Retail Federation (NRF) survey shows Americans are expected to throw down about $189.26 per person this year on average for purchasing Easter merchandise. That’s about $12 more for each person than last year.

Americans in general are expected to generate $23.6 billion in spending on Easter goods or celebrations. That’s up by about $1.2 billion from 2024. While this year’s spending on Easter merchandise is an uptick from 2024, it’s down from two years ago, when there was $24 billion spent on Easter goods, set a record for NRF historical data going back to 2007.

FRF President and CEO Scott Shalley said Floridians should focus on buying Easter merchandise in the Sunshine State.

“Florida shoppers can find egg-celent deals on candy, decorations and Easter basket goodies at their local retail stores,” Shalley said. “Given the global economic uncertainty, it’s more important than ever to ‘Find It In Florida‘ when making your Easter purchases. Supporting local businesses also supports local jobs, local economies and local communities.”

The NRF survey tapped more than 7,900 people across the country to formulate the data. Some 92% of respondents say they’ll be buying candy, 89% say they’ll buy Easter food, another 65% say they’ll purchase gifts, 51% will buy decorations, and 49% say they’ll be spending money on Easter clothing.

Among Floridians, 63% say they are mainly motivated to uphold Easter traditions when spending on the holiday this year. Another 36% of Florida shoppers say they’re influenced by sales and promotions when they make Easter purchases and another 32% acknowledge they spend money during the Easter holiday on social activities with friends and families.
