Again, craft beer aficionados, be careful what you ask for…

Consulting Crystal Ball for Future of Earth

On Sunday night, I posted a brief post speculating about the future of craft beer in Florida. The post surmised what might happen if the craft industry got everything some in the industry say they want.

I put forth a scenario in which sweeping changes to the law would inspire the mega brewers to buy up smaller ones and open up their own “brew pubs” or “tasting rooms” – or whatever the new law would allow.

Cue the Rod Serling music.

On Tuesday, Brewbound (a pro-craft beer publication) publishes this article.

It tells how Boston Beer (the mega-brewer of over 2.5 million barrels a year, mostly under the Sam Adams label) is doing exactly that! It’s using its national buying power to buy up smaller brewers to create a sort of chain of outlets.

(The article, ironically, isn’t really about the three-tier system but how local building regulations have stymied their progress in, of all places, Miami.)

Every once in a while, I get one right.
