Gov. Rick Scott ordered U.S. and state flags at the Florida Capitol to fly at half-staff Friday in honor of former State Sen. Ken Plante.
Plante passed away March 1 after a three-year battle with ALS.
First elected to the Senate from Winter Park in 1967, Plante served until 1978. After leaving the Legislature, he remained active in both the public and private sectors, serving on the 1977-78 Constitutional Revision Commission, and as a founder of both Florida TaxWatch and the Florida Association of Professional Lobbyists.
Plante also was Director of Legislative Affairs for Gov. Jeb Bush in 1999.
In a memo issued Thursday, Scott directed that flags of the United States and the state of Florida be flown at half-staff at the Leon County Courthouse, Tallahassee City Hall, and at the Florida Capitol from sunrise to sunset on Friday.
