Three-term Marion County Commissioner Stan McClain raised $31,900 in February for his bid for House District 23.
McClain’s campaign calls the latest fundraising numbers a show of strong, early support in the race to replace incumbent Rep. Dennis Baxley in 2016, who is mounting his own run for the state Senate.
“We are very encouraged by the support we’ve received throughout the community,” McClain said in a prepared statement. “Our conservative message of economic growth and fiscal responsibility is resonating with the people in District 23.”
McClain, an Ocala Republican, has not yet drawn opposition.
In addition to fundraising, McClain has received a number of endorsements from numerous Marion County elected officials and community leaders, including former House Speaker Larry Cretul and State Rep. Charlie Stone.
McClain said he is running on a platform of low taxes and ensuring Marion County’s economic future is strong. As a small-business owner and elected official, McClain said he is “uniquely qualified to take the values of hard work and freedom to Tallahassee.”
District 23 covers much of Marion County, including parts of Ocala, Belleview, and Silver Springs Shores.
