February proves lucrative for Bob Buckhorn PAC

One Florida Political Action Committee, the political committee formed by friends of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, has raised more than $60,000 since being created in December.

The PAC raised $43,875.15 in February, by far its most prolific month in its short life. Nearly a quarter of that amount, or $10,000, came via a contribution from LSI Management Co., also known as Laser Spine Institute on Rocky Point.

Another $5,000 came from Alliant Partners, a Tampa architecture firm, and there were two $2,500 contributions: one from the Tampa law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick. Another came from the D.C.-based law firm of Squire Sanders, now doing business as Squire Patton Boggs.

A $2,000 donation came from the Florida Police Benevolent Association, and another $2,000 from James D. Robinson, an IT consultant from Lakeland.

Buckhorn won re-election this past week with numbers typical of a third-world dictator, taking 96 percent of the vote against write-in candidate Jose Vazquez. He has not denied speculation that he is contemplating a run for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2018.

At an event with the Tampa Police Department on Wednesday, Buckhorn joked that, “This is my first public appearance as a lame duck, but there will be nothing lame about this duck.”
