The Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers Association has announced they will celebrate “Sunshine Week,” a nationwide initiative dedicated to open government and access, as well as educating people on the importance of the business of government.
“Transparency in government is at the core of every Clerk’s office throughout the state,” Joseph E. Smith, FCCC president and Clerk of the Circuit Court of St. Lucie County, said in a prepared statement Thursday morning. “Florida’s Court Clerks and Comptrollers are committed to ensuring dependability, clarity and openness in government. We look forward to celebrating a decade of open-government awareness and empowering communities to play an active role in our government.”
“Sunshine Week gives FCCC a chance to highlight these resources and new initiatives, so we can enlighten the public on their right to know,” Smith concluded.
Florida has historically been a leader in governmental transparency, though that reputation has taken a hit in recent months.
Sunshine Week will run from Monday until March 21.
