Nassau County Commissioner and small businessman Barry Holloway filed this week to run for Northeast Florida’s House District 11, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
The Bryceville Republican brings considerable conservative bona fides and a wealth of public service experience to his bid to assume the open seat left by the term-limited Rep. Janet Adkins.
“I have a lifelong commitment to making our region a better place to work, live and raise a family and will take that commitment with me to Tallahassee,” Holloway said in a recent prepared statement.
“As someone who has served at the county level and twice as chairman of the Nassau County Commission, I know that Tallahassee is no place for on the job training. I bring the right mix of business and elected leadership experience to hit the ground running,” Holloway said.
Holloway enters a busy fray in the race for HD 11, which has four GOP hopefuls. The deep-red seat contains parts all of Nassau — traditionally a Republican stronghold — as well as parts of more liberal Duval. But a little competition doesn’t seem to deter Holloway.
Emphasizing his Bryceville roots, Holloway concluded, “I was born and raised in Northeast Florida, attended local schools and have spent most of my life in this district, building a business, raising my family and working hard to make our community better.”
