A political committee backing a measure to increase solar power usage in Florida raised $32,140 and spent $26,499 in March according to a new report filed with the Florida Division of Elections.

Floridians for Solar Choice is pushing an amendment to take away some of the barriers preventing Floridians from buying solar energy from local suppliers. The committee got $30,000 of the March contributions from the SACE Action Fund, an offshoot of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy that also wrote the committee a check for $100,000 in late January. The Knoxville-based group gave the committee an additional $14,643 in in-kind contributions for the month.

The March numbers bring the committee’s overall contributions to $172,405 against expenditures totaling $152,171, leaving the committee with $20,234 cash on hand.

The new Division of Elections filings also show Floridians for Solar Choice has submitted 80,168 valid petition signatures, which is enough to bring about a Florida Supreme Court review of the proposed ballot language. If approved by the high court, the committee would need to gather another 602,981 valid signatures to get on the November 2016 ballot.
